This is a sermon series delivered at our church on Sunday mornings in the Winter of 2024-2025 that goes verse-by-verse through the Old Testament Minor Prophet Book of Micah. The “Minor” Prophets are twelve prophetic writings bearing the names of the prophets that wrote them and delivered the prophecies. They are called such, not because they are less important, but because they are shorter in length than the larger prophetic books known as the Major Prophets. Micah delivered his prophecies during the 700’s B.C. to the people of Israel under threat of destruction from the Assyrian Empire, the world’s most powerful empire of the time. Micah preaches messages of coming judgment and future hope and ultimately points forward to the coming Messiah who will deliver God’s people. The name “Micah” means “Who is like Yahweh?” and it is a fitting name because the book serves, above all things, to reveal the character of God and how His people are to live in relationship with Him. While Micah’s prophecies were delivered and his book written to particular people in a certain time, it serves to teach all generations what it is to know God in covenant relationship and walk faithfully with Him.
Micah 6:8 – “He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
